How to prepare for your makeup trial

Makeup trials are such great fun!  They are also a great way to get to know your artist before your big day and to make sure they are nail the look you're after, so you can feel confident on the day that you will look a million dollars.

In my experience, there are four things that you can do to ensure you get the very most out of your trial:

1. Cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate

Skin preparation is vital to achieving beautiful makeup that lasts and the preparation you put in the days leading up to your appointment will make all the difference.  Firstly, make sure you are thoroughly cleansing your skin morning and night, exfoliating every second-third day and hydrating with a good quality serum and moisturiser.  Begin this at least 30 days before your appointment to ensure your skin is the best it can be, but if you don't have this time, then any skin prep you do beforehand will be beneficial. At the trial, your makeup artist should give you some tips and skincare recommendations so that you can achieve your very best complexion on the big day.

2. Wear your regular makeup to the appointment

One woman's dramatic smokey eye is another's everyday look.  Coming to your appointment with your makeup already on will show the makeup artist exactly what you mean when you are explaining what you are after.

3. Know what you want, and also what you definitely don't want

Put a pinterest board together and email it to your makeup artist beforehand, or bring pictures on your phone.  It is also a good idea to show some pictures of makeup looks you defiantly don't like.  This can really nail down for the artist what you want to achieve.  The role of the makeup artist is to make you feel your most gorgeous, so some direction from you is really important.

4. Wear a color similar to your dress

This helps so much when selecting tones that are going to best compliment your complexion and any good artist knows the outfit plays a big part in ensuring the whole look is seamless.  The color doesn’t have to be the exact color of your dress, but if you're wearing white, then a white top will be perfect.
